Inspiration for their Dual Duel:
This diptych was an investigation of the diagonal and the balance between two different visual languages occuping the same space. It was also a fantastic reason to have a few drinks and studio sessions with a mate discussing various artistic philosophies and compositianal differences between our works. ~Joseph Loughborough

The works explore the theme of “Duel” in every way from the diptych nature of the piece - through to the opposing visual styles both competing and complementing at the same time. It was an exploration of opposites.. the clean edges of my geometry complementing Joe's looser, rougher charcoal marks. My composition and graphic based motifs contrasting with Joe’s figurative awesomeness. The process made both of us challenge ourselves and each other - and raised interesting thoughts about the way we work.. plus it was the perfect excuse to hang out and have a beer. ~Mark McClure

About the Artist:

Joseph Loughborough
Joseph Loughborough (b. 1981) spent his formative years exploring the derelict boatyards and creeks of Portsmouth, on the south coast of the UK. After graduating from Portsmouth University he pursued interests in art, philosophy and skateboarding culture. Living once again in London after nearly a decade in Paris and Berlin he works from his studio in Canning Town.

Mark McClure
Mark McClure embraces public art, installation, sculpture and gallery works alongside bespoke surface design - all in his distinctive, geometric style. His work draws on a background of alternative culture and graphics - and celebrates the blending of fine art and visual design. Working with wood, paint and other materials – he collaborates with interior designers, architects and public bodies to bring the bold works to both private and public spaces. They both stimulate and complement through their use of materials, colour and composition – often reflecting the structural nature of the spaces they inhabit. He has exhibited widely both in the UK and Internationally.
