A.D. will host "Urban Campfires" this Friday, August 13th in collaboration with AuralTradition. The evening includes full half hour performances by Emily Kagan, Karen Ladson and Bill Burman with a special screening of (native SJ, now NY) filmaker John Gutierrez' documentary "The Last Poets." 1. Emily Kagan of Berekley and San Francisco fame, in one of her last west coast performances before leaving for Boston. 2. Bill Burman, award-winning satirist, monologuist, and head writer for the Dangerous Neighbors theatre group. 3. Karen Ladson of Slam Team Berkeley 2001 and now of Slam Team San Jose 2004. New or old, each of her pieces are show-stoppers. 9:45pm - Special screening of a new documentary by John Gutierrez, The Last Poets which is packaged with the new album "When We Come Together, The Tribute Album." Hailed as the godfathers of rap, The Last Poets have joined forces with some of today's most prolific artists to present their latest opus, "When We Come Together, The Tribute Album." The Last Poets continue to create legendary music, while still innovating hip hop. Special guests on the album indlude: Kaye West, Erykah Badu, Common, dead Prez, Bilal, Chuck D, Doug E. Fresh, Buckshot and many others. The Last Poets have inspired this incredible and dynamic cast of talented young arists to pay homage to this legendary group in "When We Come Together, The Tribute Album."
