Free WiFi in Downtown San Jose

The moment we've all been waiting for... Well at least all of us geeks, artists, students, teachers, downtown residents, business workers and visitors that would enjoy the freedom of a public access wifi network in downtown.

San Jose goes free wireless on March 11th from Cesar Chavez to the Circle of Palms and San Pedro Square. Drop by the Circle of Palms at 11 a.m. on March 11 for an event launch. The service is made possible by a collaboration of the city of San Jose, San Jose Convention and Visitors Bureau, Global Netoptex Inc. and Cisco Systems.

"I think that a plan is a society of rooms. A real plan is one in which rooms have spoken to each other. When you see a plan, you can say that it is the structure of the spaces in their light." ~ Louis I. Kahn

The work and thoughts of Louis Kahn, arguably one of the most influential minds of modern architecture, has inspired us for years. This weekend the documentary My Architect A Son's Journey comes to the Bay Area. "My Architect is a tale of love and art, betrayal and forgiveness – in which the illegitimate son of a legendary artist undertakes a five year, worldwide exploration to understand his long-dead father." The critically acclaimed film opens this weekend at the Castro theater in San Francisco and Landmark's Act II in Berkeley. Learn more here.

Devon Sproule's "Upstate Songs" makes Rolling Stone's Critics Top Albums of 2003 list. Julie Gerstein calls it "Perhaps the sweetest and most honest folk-pop album recorded this year, Sproule's vocal and lyrical beauty is unmatched." If you didn't make it out to one of her two (free) appearances here at A.D., first spank yourself, and then check out a video clip from her performance here.
