Inspiration for their Dual Duel:
"The works I did with Klone is actually the first time I've artistically cooperated with someone. The connection between us was fascinating and we both really enjoyed "interrupting" each other's work. I knew Klone from the works he was doing in the streets (his main work is street art), and I really connected with them. I think that each of us brought his language into this visual dialogue, and the process was fascinating." ~Assi Meshullam
About the Artists:
Klone
Born 1983 Harkov, Ukraine (former USSR.) Nowadays residing in Tel-Aviv, Israel. Painter/Installation maker; documenting the real and unreal .
My work is dealing with memories , my own and the ones I manage to collect in everyday life from surroundings , if its my childhood in USSR or the coming to Israel , if its the layers of the city , walls crumbling apart and graffiti covering and being covered, people getting old and the new generations appearing every moment; the seacrh is endless thus my work of documenting it is still long... I learn a new language that invents itself along the way.
Assi Meshullam
I was born in 1975 in Haifa, Israel. Since I can remember, I was always occupied with painting and drawing, but I have not always thought I would become a professional artist. I was very fascinated by animals and nature and to be honest, until I was 22 I thought I would be a tour guide or something like that. But in 1997 I made a big trip to South America, and it was in Peru where I found myself very interested in archaeology, ancient cultures and ancient arts. So when I returned to Israel, I signed up for archaeology studies at the university, and in addition, for the sake of adventure, to art studies.
During my academic studies I found myself drawn more and more to art, and towards the end I realized that I wanted to become a professional artist. So, I moved to Tel Aviv, which is the main city in terms of the Israeli art scene, and began to develop a career in art, to exhibit and work in a meaningful way. The archaeology and my interest in nature, animals and ancient cultures have never left me and have always inspired my work in the studio.
Since 2006 I have been teaching art at the University of Haifa, and for the past two years I have been the head of the Art Department.
