Dual Duel Denis Korkh x Zero Cents

Denis Korkh (US) x Zero Cents (Israel)
Feast
acrylic on canvas, 30" x 48"
$5000.

Inspiration for their Dual Duel:
"I woke up early and hung over. The previous night, I picked up Zero Cents from SJC and we were up late talking about his time in Peru. We talked about ancient humanoids and megalithic architecture. But today we would talk exclusively through painting.  We exchanged a few remarks about the orientation of the canvas and spent the day in silence painting simultaneously.  Since we don’t have bodies when paint - we wouldn’t collide and were able to work the whole of the canvas at the same time.  We were one author and this crazy narrative emerged.  For the next few days we would alternate.  No spot was sacred - everything was subject to constant and fast change.  I can’t imagine having been closer to Zero Cents than this time together.  He is an artist I admire so very much and this was an absolutely paragon event in my work.  What you see in “Feast” is our conversation. ~Denis Korkh

About the Artists:

Denis Korkh
I was born in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine in 1986.  There, I was instilled with many of my core values and sensibilities.  In 1997, my family moved to Cleveland, Ohio.  In 2004, I moved to San Francisco and in 2011, to San Jose where I reside now.

I made a painting here and there but overnight, in November 2013, I became obsessed. I painted and then the next day and every free minute for a long time after.  I made just over a hundred terrible paintings in the first year.

I knew for certain only that I loved the ritual and I realised meaning in the act.  That year, I discovered Anno Domini Gallery and inside I found life-time works.  On these walls were decades of someone's silent contemplation - unconcerned and honest.  I knew then that in a few decades I will produce work that will also have this quietude which will be less a product of my effort and more of time and intimacy.

Zero Cents
Zero Cents (b.1986) is an American-born Israeli-based artist living and working in Tel Aviv. For the past 9 years, the artist has been working both in studio and on the streets, painting murals and creating site-specific installations. The artist’s work deals with observations on people surrounding him: the lovers and fighters, the party-ers, the thinkers, the dancers and the damned.

Through his work, the artist documents the energy the human race creates, the wisdom, morals, values (or the lack of them) that they pass on. While conducting this research, he communicates the subjects’ movement and energy on a variety of surfaces–from found wood to city walls–using various mediums and techniques without judgment. Using these components as a metaphor for forgiveness, Zero Cents shows the human race as it is, in the most authentic and honest way he feels possible.

Zero Cents has exhibited in group shows around the world and solo exhibitions in Tel Aviv as well as three solo exhibitions at Anno Domini.
